Peperomia pellucida is used as a tea for a loose cough. In the Grenadines, where it is called silver bush, it provides a tea for undernourished children. In Africa it is frequently employed in infusions for convulsions. In Trinidad, where it is called shiny bush, it is used for colds and as a cooling medicine for children. In Jamaica this plant is still included among the ubiquitous "cold bushes": it is considered especially valuable as a children's remedy. One informant who had resided in Cuba said that it is an excellent "blood cooler" and helps one to sleep. (Medlcinal Plants of Jamaica)

USES: Whole plant: Infusion for cholagogue and refreshant; sap for eyedrops, eye infections. Surinam Saramaccan Bush Negroes use it in a curative herbal bath. Stem and Leaf: Mixed in milk for oral afflictions in general such as gingivitis and dental neuralgia; for a local vulnerary; infusion is refreshing, hypotensive, cholagogue, used to treat hypertension, heart troubles and to cool the body. Warmed as an eyewash ingredient. Leaf: For albuminuria in Surinam. Used for a diuretic in Guyana, where it is also eaten as a salad to cleanse the blood, and used in an infusion to cure womb inflammations. In Guyana, juice is squeezed from the leaves into a patient's eyes to treat cataracts. In a strong tea for bronchitis and asthma. (Medicinal Plants of the Guianas)

1. Method of use hemorrhoids:
Take the 1 kg root of the plant and boil it with 5 litre of water keep boiling until the water is reduced to 1 litre, keep that water in clay pot and drink the 25 -30 mL of water in fasting for 15-20 days.
2. Method of use skin dryness and self cracking of skin:
Fresh 500 g whole plant is grinded and 500 mL of hair oil is mixed with plants and a paste is prepred and is applied on the dryied skin everynight for 3-5 days
Following compounds are isolated from Aerva javanica: Chrysoeriol, isorhamnetin 3-O-rutinoside, and kaempferol 3-O-robinoside, a series of hydrocarbons ranging from C13-C30 in addition to campesterol, β-sitosterol, and the triterpenoid α- and β-amyrin, as well as fatty alc. fraction ranging from C26-C36 and 14 fatty acids in which pentadecanoic acid represent the major constituent (20.39 %). while the isolated flavonoidal compds. isorhamnetin 3-O-rutinoside and chrysoeriol showed marked activity against G -ve bacteria. Trees, deciduous, small, to 15 m tall. Bark blackish, rough; branches spreading or pendulous, zigzag, slender, glabrous. Stipules caducous; petiole 0.8-1.2 cm; leaf blade broadly orbic¬ular, 1.5-4 × 2.2-6 cm, 7-9-veined, leathery, abaxially pubes¬cent or glabrous, adaxially glabrous, base cordate, apex bifid to ca. 1/3, lobes rounded at apex.

Inflorescence  lateral or terminal raceme,  20-flowered; peduncle short; bracts and brac¬teoles linear. Flowers white, buds obovoid, puberulent, apex protruding. Calyx split spathaceously at anthe¬sis. Petals creamy white, subequal, oblanceolate, 8-10 mm, subses¬sile. Fertile stamens 10, unequal; filaments 6-7 mm; anthers small, ca. 3 mm. Ovary stalked, glabrous; stigma subsessile, peltate, small. Legume linear-cylindric, 15-20 × 1.8-2.2 cm; valves woody, glabrous. Seeds 12-20, dark brownish, ellipsoid, 8-10 mm in diam. Fl. Apr-May, fr. Jun-Aug. 2n = 28.

Distribution: Native to South Asia, in dry valeys.

Leaves are used as cattle fodder, coarse fibre is extacted from the bark. In Ayurveda the bark is useful for the treatment of malaria, dysentery and dyarhoea. It is also useful as astigent. The stem bark of the plant is an astringent and is used in the treatment of headache, fever, skin
diseases, tumors, blood diseases, dysentery, and diarrhea

Phytochemistry: ß-sitosterol and ß-amyrin(bark) , five flavonols (kaempferol and quercetin) and two coumarins (scopoletin and scopolin)
were also isolated from the leaves of the plant; Stilbene (resveratrol) was isolated from the heartwood  Dibenzoxepin derivative, pacharin, from the heartwood of  is reported.

Bark—highly astringent, anti-inflammatory (used in glandular inflammations, skin diseases, ulcers), cholagogue. Leaves—anthelmintic; with onion for diarrhoea. Flowers—used in haemorrhages, piles; also in cough. Seed—antibacterial.
